
The Wayzata Wizards, coached by Clint Connealy and Kathy Grinde, performed well in their tournaments and league play this season.
The Wizards took 1st place in the U15 upper bracket of the Just For Girls Tournament held April 17-18 in Des Moines, IA. The Wizards played Minnesota Thunder Academy White, Dakota Alliance and North Metro Power in pool play to advance to the championship round. The Wizards won the tournament by beating PSA Storm in overtime with a shoot out score of 3-2.
In other tournament action, the Wizards took 2nd place in the NSC Cup Tournament held May 29-31 in Blaine. The Wizards played East Select (Duluth), PTSC Premier (Winnipeg, Manitoba), Rochester United, White Bear Lake Thunder and Minnesota Thunder Academy Elite 95 to advance to the championship round. The Wizards played DASC Elite (Sioux Falls, SD) and took 2nd place in the tournament with an overtime score 2-1.
The Wizards also took 2nd place in the K.I.S.S. (Kalamazoo Invitational Soccer Showcase) Tournament held in Kalamazoo, MI on June 26-27. The Wizards played teams from Appleton, WI, Oakbrook, IL and Cedar Rapids, IA in pool play to advance to the championship round. The Wizards took 2nd place in an exciting overtime game vs. Toledo, OH with a score of 1-0.
The Wizards finished 2nd place in their State Cup pool and closed out their season with 12 wins, 9 loses and 7 ties. The team finished 4th out of 7 teams in their league.
